Probabilistic mathematical formula recognition using a 2D context-free graph grammar

We present a probabilistic framework for the mathematical expression recognition problem. The developed system is flexible in that its grammar can be extended easily thanks to its graph grammar which eliminates the need for specifying rule precedence. It is also optimal in the sense that all possible interpretations of the expressions are expanded without making early commitments or hard decisions. In this paper, we give an overview of the whole system and describe in detail the graph grammar and the parsing process used in the system, along with some preliminary results on character, structure and expression recognition performances

Türkiye’deki İngilizce Öğretmen Adaylarının Uygulama Dersinde Yaşadıkları Endişe ve Kaygılar

Teacher training institutions need to identify the stress-generating aspects of the practicum so as to take necessary precautions to minimize their occurrence, intensity and influence, and consequently, make practice experiences as effective and beneficial as possible for pre-service teachers. The study examined the concerns that 133 Turkish pre-service EFL teachers experienced during practicum. A questionnaire consisting of 40 statements tapping concerns and stressful experiences was applied to the pre-service teachers. The potential stress areas were analyzed under six categories: personal, communication-centered, evaluation-based, external, lesson preparation and teaching related. The results indicate that nearly half of these stress areas are at the medium level, that personal concerns generate the highest level of stress, and that evaluation-based concerns lead to the lowest level of stress.Öğretmen yetiştiren kurumların, öğretmenlik uygulamasında ortaya çıkabilecek endişe ve kaygıları tespit etmeleri, bu kaygıların azaltılması ve uygulamanın etkili ve yararlı olması bakımından gereklidir. Bu çalışma, 133 uygulama öğrencisinin yaşadığı endişe ve kaygıları inceler. Öğrencilerin muhtemelen tecrübe edebileceği endişe ve kaygı alanlarını saptamayı hedefleyen 40 maddelik bir anket uygulanmıştır. Potansiyel huzursuzluk alanları, altı başlık altında incelemeye tabi tutulmuştur: Kişisel, iletişimsel, değerlendirme, dış kaynaklı, ders hazırlığı ve öğretim. Sonuçlar, huzursuzluk kaynağı olabilecek alanların yaklaşık yarısının orta seviyede gerçekleştiği, kişisel etkenlerin en yüksek kaygı ve huzursuzluğun kaynağı olduğunu ve değerlendirme ile ilgili olan alanın en düşük düzeyde huzursuzluk doğurduğunu ortaya koyar

This article reports on an investigation into the intralingual errors in word derivation and inflection committed in writing and speaking. The article argues that some intralingual errors can be considered “creative”. One main conclusion reached is that advanced learners can attain a level of competence which would render them having certain native speaker qualities in certain domains of language, i.e. lexical competence.Bu makale, yabancı dil öğrenimi sürecinde, yazılı ve sözlü sınavlarda öğrenilen dilin kurallarından hareketle yapılan sözcük türelimi hataları üzerine bir araştırmadır. Makale bu şekilde yapılan bazı hataların “yaratıcı” olarak kabul edilmesi gerektiğini savunur. Bu çalışmada Yakup Kadri Karaosmanoğlu’nun Ankara romanı ile Refik Halit Karay’ın Bugünün Saraylısı adlı romanı temel kahramanlar Selma ile Ayşen ekseninde karşılaştırılacaktır. Bovarizm, Flaubert’in Madam Bovary romanından hareketle ortaya çıkarılmış bir kavramdır. Bovarizm, Türk edebiyatına önce Halit Ziya’nın romanlarındaki kadın kahramanlarla girmiş, daha sonra 1940’ların başına kadar varlığını sürdürmüştür. Selma ve Ayşen, farklı yaşayış tarzlarından gelmelerine karşın iç dünyalarındaki fırtınalar ve erkekler eksenindeki tavırlarıyla Bovarizmden izler taşırlar. Sürekli değişme arzusu ve mutsuzluk temel davranış tarzı durumundadır

A secure and private RFID authentication protocol based on quadratic residue

Radio Frequency IDentification based systems are getting pervasively deployed in many real-life applications in various settings for identification and authentication of remote objects. However, the messages that are transmitted over a insecure channel, are vulnerable to security and privacy concerns such as data privacy, location privacy of tag owner and etc. Recently, Yeh et al.'s proposed a RFID authentication protocol based on quadratic residue which is claimed to provide location privacy and prevent possible attacks. In this paper, we formally analyzed the protocol and we proved that the protocol provides destructive privacy according to Vaudenay privacy model. Moreover, we proposed a unilateral authentication protocol and we prove that our protocol satisfies higher privacy level such as narrow strong privacy. Besides, we proposed an enhanced version of our proposed protocol, which has same privacy level as Yeh at al protocol, but has reader authentication against stronger adversaries. Furthermore, the enhanced version of our protocol uses smaller number of cryptographic operations when compared to Yeh at al protocol and it is also cost efficient at the server and tag side and requires O(1) complexity to identify a RFID tag
